US Government Poised to Boost Bitcoin Reserves, Galaxy Digital Predicts
Alex Thorn, the head of research at Galaxy Digital, anticipates that the US government will acquire Bitcoin (BTC) to enhance the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) this year.
In a recent Bloomberg Crypto interview, Thorn mentioned that the US already possesses Bitcoin from confiscations and will likely initiate purchases to increase its holdings by 2025.
He referenced a March executive order that established the SBR and mandated the Treasury and Commerce Departments to explore budget-neutral ways to buy Bitcoin while forbidding the purchase of altcoins.
Thorn expressed optimism that significant progress has been made, especially with officials recognizing Bitcoin as a viable store of value.
He also suggested that the government could fund Bitcoin acquisitions by selling altcoins from their digital asset stockpile, enabling transactions without cash flow into the US treasury.
This potential shift comes amid broader economic considerations, including rising market uncertainty and a weakening US dollar, further intertwining Bitcoin's narrative with traditional safe-haven assets like gold.
As Bitcoin's price reportedly approaches new highs, its role as a strategic reserve asset seems increasingly plausible.
Ultimately, the evolving stance of the US government towards Bitcoin may encourage further institutional interest and partnerships in the crypto space as they explore innovative financial mechanisms.
Such developments could not only reshape the landscape for Bitcoin but also reinforce its legitimacy within the global economic framework.
All eyes will be on how these initiatives unfold and impact investor sentiment in the coming months.
