France's Intensifying War on Crypto-Related Wrench Attacks: 88 Charged

France has launched an ambitious crackdown on organized gangs involved in violent crypto-related "wrench attacks," charging 88 suspects, including over 10 minors, across 12 judicial investigations.

The National Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office (PNACO) reported that 75 of the charged individuals are currently in pre-trial detention.

Charges include kidnapping, extortion, unlawful confinement, and money laundering, highlighting the severity of this growing criminal crisis.

France has become the global epicenter for these attacks, which target crypto holders and coerce them into surrendering their digital assets through violence.

The country has documented 135 crypto-related incidents in 2023 alone, with a staggering 72 incidents recorded in 2025, reflecting a 75% annual increase.

Experts reveal that the criminal masterminds behind these attacks remain largely insulated from arrest, often operating from outside the EU.

Additionally, a significant rise in personal data breaches in France complicates matters, as valuable information is frequently leaked and sold to criminals.

Notably, some incidents are still classified as standard robberies, leading to underreporting and victim silence due to fears of retaliation.

Recent high-profile cases, including kidnappings and home invasions targeting well-known figures in the crypto community, have further shaken public confidence.

Authorities urge crypto holders to limit their social media exposure and remain vigilant against impersonation attempts as they intensify efforts to combat this violent trend.
