US-Based Helium Joins Forces with AT&T to Expand WiFi Accessibility
In a significant move for the decentralized infrastructure landscape, Helium has announced a partnership with AT&T to enhance WiFi access across the United States.
This collaboration allows AT&T customers to connect seamlessly to Helium’s extensive network of over 93,500 community-built hotspots.
Helium operates through participants who deploy small cell towers, thus creating a decentralized network while earning digital rewards for their contributions.
Amir Haleem, co-founder and CEO of Helium Mobile, emphasized that this partnership will facilitate faster adoption and provide tangible benefits to users of both networks.
The integration allows for WiFi authentication via AT&T’s Passpoint roaming service, merging decentralized nodes with traditional telecom infrastructure.
Helium currently boasts around 800,000 daily users, indicating a robust engagement with its decentralized offerings.
To further expand its reach, Helium has also partnered with Telefónica’s Movistar in Mexico and is in discussions with other global carriers.
This announcement comes on the heels of Helium's introduction of a groundbreaking free mobile plan in February, marking a first in the US market.
Despite regulatory challenges, including a recent SEC lawsuit that was settled for a civil penalty, Helium continues to innovate and broaden its service offerings.
With more collaborations on the horizon, Helium signals a promising future for decentralized telecommunications and WiFi connectivity.
