Japan's Metaplanet Surpasses Galaxy Digital with Major Bitcoin Acquisition
Metaplanet, Japan's largest corporate Bitcoin treasury, recently announced the acquisition of 1,005 BTC, positioning it ahead of competitors like CleanSpark and Galaxy Digital.
The firm purchased these Bitcoins at approximately $107,601 each, totaling around $108.1 million.
With this new investment, Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings now stand at 13,350 BTC, valued at over $1.4 billion.
Recent data indicates that Bitcoin's price increased by 3.8% in the last 24 hours, trading at about $107,649.
Following this acquisition, Metaplanet has secured its place as the world’s fifth-largest holder of Bitcoin among publicly traded companies.
CEO Simon Gerovich emphasized the rapid growth of their Bitcoin reserves, highlighting that the firm expanded from 3,350 BTC to over 13,000 BTC in just three months.
To accelerate its acquisition strategy, Metaplanet's board approved the issuance of 0% interest ordinary bonds worth $208 million.
The funds from this issuance will facilitate Bitcoin purchases while concurrently enabling the company to buy back and cancel existing bonds.
Metaplanet aims to reach a remarkable 100,000 BTC by 2026 and 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027 under its ambitious "555 Million plan."
Notably, Metaplanet is the largest non-American entity holding Bitcoin, surpassing competitors like Canada’s Hut 8 Mining.
